AI will take your job
"AI will replace you!"
AI will take your job - this is clear - but only if you don't adapt to this new era.
AI is not new; it has been with us for many years. However, since OpenAI released GPT4, the potential of what we can do with AI has increased dramatically. AI is a powerful tool that you need to learn how to use; you need to understand how it works and its limitations. This is the key point that many people don't understand.
Many people think that AI is not helpful and that it's not ethically correct to use it for tasks they've traditionally done themselves. They feel threatened because they believe AI isn't as capable as they are. They are not using it enough because they believe they are better than the AI.
On the other hand, there are others who think that AI is magical and use it for everything. This is also a problem. You need to understand when you can use AI and what its limitations are. For example, if you use AI to generate text or code but don't properly work on the prompts or add the proper context, the quality won't be good enough, and you might get frustrated with it.
AI is a tool; this is the most important thing to understand. Foundation models are good for reasoning, summarizing, and generating, but they do not have context (there are techniques to solve this; see RAG) or memory. They are generic models that have been trained on large amounts of general data.
This is why AI Engineering is a new field. There are many techniques for properly creating AI applications on top of foundation models. If you're only using AI through ChatGPT or a similar tool, you're just experimenting and haven't understood how to properly use this technology.
